How to Raise Happy Alpacas

Alpacas are herd animals, and don’t like to be alone. If you have a lone animal in your farm, provide it with a mate, so as to avoid the animal getting stressed. Have a mound of dirt for the alpacas, especially the younger ones, to play in. This will keep them happy.
In the summer provide water for the alpacas to cool off in, either in the form of pond, or even by hosing them with water. Also, insure that there’s plenty of shade for your alpacas to shelter from the sun.
Windbreaks to protect the alpacas from wind are also a requirement, if you want to raise happy alpacas. Make sure that the hay you feed your alpacas is soft, and easy to chew.
Give them enough room to run around – about an acre for every half-dozen animals on your farm.
Worming of your alpacas from time to time (about once in three months) will also help keep them happy. Trim their toenails, regularly, so as to prevent them from curling, and breaking off, thereby running the risk of their going lame.
