Creating a newsletter is such a simple and straightforward task. Anyone can build their own newsletter without needing any professional help. Once you are in the midst of your newsletter creation process, you will need to make several choices and decisions that can affect the overall outcome of your work. Among the choices that you are going to make is the choice of a newsletter format. Newsletters are commonly published in three different newsletter formats.
These formats are as follows text, HTML and PDF. Each of these formats has some peculiar features that set it apart from its sister formats. These features are in fact what you are going to use when making a choice. It is important to base one’s choice on some concrete factors and not just choose a particular format because you feel like doing so.
First, you will want to consider the features that you are going to need to use in your newsletter. Some formats do not support some of the features that you may choose. The text newsletter, for instance, supports none of the rich editing and formatting features. You cannot use colors, fonts, images, hyperlinks, background colors, etc. This may make the text format inappropriate or inadequate for you.
If you plan to incorporate some of these features in your newsletter, you may want to go for the HTML format as it supports all of them. You are going to create your email newsletter design in the format which you use. Your content may also need to be created in the same format. Thus, if you are going to use hyperlinks in the body of your newsletter, you should do so with HTML. PDF newsletters are not as common among newsletter publishers. Some publishers use the PDF format just to provide their subscribers with the option of downloading the newsletter onto their desktop and reading it at their own pace.
