Elevator Bridles – Do They Work

In recent years there have been some marked steps forward in the design of bridles which had pretty much remained unchanged for hundreds of years. The Elevator bridle is one such new design that is said to help improve the performance of the horse.
The comfortable fit of tack on your horse is paramount to maintaining the equine performance. Any athlete will appreciate that wearing a pair of ill-fitting trainers will impair their performance and even attitude to training, just as our horses will struggle if their saddle or bridle is causing pain or restricting them. The Elevator bridle is specifically designed to challenge the concept of most other bridles on the market, but can this style improve your horse when ridden?
Take a few moments to look subjectively at the ways in which your bridle may restrict or rub your horse when ridden. Frequently the headpiece of the bridle is pulled forward onto the horse’s ears, imagine how uncomfortable that pressure would be around your ears. There is also the bulk from the slip head of the noseband underneath which can cause rubbing. This could also cause the bit of the bridle to sit awkwardly in the mouth. This pressure on the sensitive poll of the horse could cause some restriction, and flexion at the poll is an important factor in encouraging your horse to work correctly and perform his best. Potential pinching or rubbing caused by the head piece or noseband would prevent the horse from being fully relaxed and able to work, and therefore respond positively to the riders request.
An Elevator bridle is specially designed to take into account and eliminate these factors making the horse as comfortable as possible which in turn will allow him to fully relax his jaw and head and concentrate on the work being asked of him. The Elevator bridle has specially designed nosebands and headpieces that are padded and made from soft English leather and it also has a unique headpiece with crew holes place the noseband slip head over the top of the headpiece which effectively reduces bulk and eliminates the risk of pinching or rubbing here. Also the design is so unique that it is said to prevent the headpiece being pulled into contact with the ears, encouraging flexibility and freedom at the poll. Elevator claim this design has been proved to improve the performance of the horses that wear their Elevator bridles and they have many endorsements from professional riders.
Of course many factors influence the horse and his way of going, and the design and fitting of the bridle is only one of many tools that can be used to improve the comfort of horses and maximise his potential.
