Caring for your Cordless Knife

Anyone who has ever tried to cut through a large piece of meat without an electric knife can tell you just how difficult that can be. But with the use of an electric knife, you can cut through that same piece of meat just like it is butter. The trick, however, is to keep your knife in good working order so it will be ready any time you need it. Whether you have a cordless knife or a standard one, each will have to be looked after properly so they will continue to work at their best.

If you have a cordless knife, you will always want to make sure that the battery is charged and ready to go at all times. You don’t want to be in the middle of Christmas lunch only to find that your knife has a dead battery. On the other hand, however, overcharging a battery can lead to a shorter battery life. Be sure to read the instructions on charging your battery carefully to get the full lifespan out of it.

To keep the motor in good working order, don’t try to cut through anything solid no matter how good of an idea that may seem if you have watched the commercials about these kitchen gadgets on late night TV. You cordless knife will see a much longer life if you avoid cutting through things like frozen meat, bread or fish. Be sure to let these items thaw before cutting into them. Also, if you hear the motor straining, you may have run into bone and will need to find a different place to cut.

When cleaning your knife, never place the handle in water. You will need to remove the blade to either clean it in the sink or place it in the dishwasher. You can then clean the handle by wiping it with a damp cloth and putting it away for storage. If you have small children, you may also want to keep the blades in a separate area so no mishaps occur.

If you need to have your blades sharpened, you will need to have that done professionally. However, this shouldn’t have to be done more than once a year or even less often if you use your cordless knife infrequently.
